Sands is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity and exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth.

Sands provides bereavement support services both nationally through its Freephone helpline (0808 164 3332), mobile app (sands.org.uk/app), online community (sands.community) and resources (sands.org.uk/book), and locally through a network of around 100 regional support groups based across the UK.

Bliss’ exists to give every baby born premature or sick in the UK the best chance of survival and quality of life. Abbie’s Fund raises money to provide memory boxes to local hospitals to be given to parents at the start of their devastating journey to offer support, comfort and help make precious memories. We also provide Sibling memory boxes and have recently part funded the salary of a brand new full time Bereavement Midwife post at our local hospital.

We work closely with health professionals and offer financial support to fund other services in the bereavement arena as required.

At Abigail’s Footsteps, we know there is nothing we can do to prevent stillbirth or neonatal death. But we do know that we can help support midwives and families cope better. What started out as a grieving couple’s desire to help others has now become a powerful, influential and actionable charity that is making a demonstrable difference to people’s lives.

Aching Arms helps bring comfort following the loss of a baby during pregnancy, at birth or infancy. They supply comfort teddy bears to parents via hospitals, hospices, support groups and funeral directors in the UK. The charity asks health professionals to offer an Aching Arms bear to every bereaved parent and discuss the emotional support available to them after they leave hospital. As the bears are donated from one bereaved family to another, each bear also reminds parents they are not alone and there are others who understand. The charity also runs free awareness training programmes for health professionals and hosts a befriending service for bereaved parents.

Every year in the UK 1,000 babies and 4 women lose their lives due to pre eclampsia. Action on Pre eclampsia supports those women and families affected by providing a helpline, raises awareness of the disease amongst the public and campaigns for more research into the disease. APEC also runs study days for those who care for pregnant women to improve detection and management of pre eclampsia.

Aidan’s Elephants supports Airedale NHS Foundation Trust in caring for bereaved parents and their families. We donate handmade Memory Boxes, Recognition of Life Certificates and other memorial keepsakes, along with providing funds for Midwife Bereavement Training, the ‘Sunbeam’ Bereavement Suite and specialist equipment. Our website provides online support and vital information (such as how to plan a funeral, how to find support) for both newly bereaved parents and those who lost their child many years ago. Working collaboratively, Aidan’s Elephants and ANHSFT’s Bereavement Team have secured England’s first SiMBA Tree of Tranquility for Airedale Hospital’s Baby Memorial Garden.

The Loss Collective provide specialist services to workplaces and healthcare professionals, supporting them to become loss informed.

Founded and run by qualified clinicians with expertise in baby loss, TLC deliver bespoke training, consultation and supervision to organisations as well as 1:1 support for employees.

We also have a directory of grief and mental health resources that can be accessed for free via our website. Our aim is for everyone to be part of the baby loss conversation.

ARC offers non-directive information and support to parents before, during and after antenatal screening; when they are told their baby has an anomaly; when they are making difficult decisions about continuing with or ending a pregnancy, and when they are coping with complex and painful issues after making a decision, including bereavement.

The national charity, APS Support UK, aims to achieve earlier diagnosis and offer support to anyone affected by antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) through awareness, education and research.

APS is a life-threatening autoimmune condition that causes the blood to clot too quickly. The condition can cause potentially fatal events such as strokes, heart attacks, blood clots in the lung and DVTs.

In pregnancy, APS is the most important treatable cause of recurrent miscarriage and women are five times more likely to suffer stillbirth; it is also associated with other complications such as pre-eclampsia, low weight babies and premature births.

Ayrshire Baby Loss Awareness is a non-profit organisation created by a bereaved mother in memory of her beloved son, Jacob.

Our mission is to break the silence surrounding Baby Loss by organising events and sharing information in Ayrshire.

Baby Loss Retreat aim to relieve the emotional and psychological suffering to parents who have lost a baby to miscarriage, stillborn, Neonatal death, IVF and medical termination.

This can be done with Counselling and Trauma therapy. Respite is also offered in locations which are peaceful so that parents can spend time to reflect and talk about there Loss. Every parent who attends will receive a comfort bag to help them talk and engage as a couple.

Beyond Bea is a charity focusing on raising awareness about baby loss and bereavement and educating health care professionals in order to improve bereavement care.

We recognise that not all health professionals deliver the same high standard of care when diagnosing and supporting families during the loss of a baby. This is often due to lack of training and inexperience.

Our aim is to ensure that all health professionals and students are offered free bereavement education and training.

Birmingham Women’s Hospital is one of only two dedicated women’s hospitals in UK and is a centre of excellence providing specialist services to more than 50,000 women, babies and families every year.  Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity’s mission is to improve the patient experience for all the women and families at the hospital.

The charity’s latest appeal is the Woodland House Appeal. Every year, the hospital cares for over 2,000 grieving mums and dads who suffer baby loss. The charity is raising £3.5million to bring a purpose-built bereavement centre to the hospital. Cariad Angel Gowns take donated wedding gowns and transform them into Angel burial outfits and memory packs for those who have suffered baby loss through miscarriage, ectopic, stillbirth or neonatal loss, and gift them to hospitals funeral directors and private families together with a certificate of life acknowledging the baby’s existence for those not eligible for a birth certificate. We fundraise to gift cuddle cots to hospitals and funeral directors throughout Wales and the UK.

CDH UK was founded by Husband and Wife Brenda and Kevin Lane when they found themselves feeling alone and isolated when their child was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia in 1994. They could not find any formal support in the UK and so decided to reach out to other families to form a small support network to offer each other informal and friendly support by telephone and email. They met with other families in person by organising small meet ups and soon realised that they had a desire and vision to create a formal support service. With the help of a donation from a local UK association they registered their charitable work with the Charity Commission in 2004 with a small committee of UK families, finally realising their vision of providing families with support by becoming the first CDH Charity in the UK.

CDH UK offers information and advice to patients, families, Clinicians and other organisations on CDH (including eventration) from diagnosis and throughout the Patient Journey, through different types of media such as the internet and written publications and many other services and resources also available to Clinicians and other organisations, which can be found on our website.

Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals both when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, and when a child is facing bereavement.

CRADLE is a national registered charity working with the NHS and private healthcare sector to provide support at the appropriate time to anyone affected by early pregnancy loss. We have a team of national volunteers who each support their local NHS CRADLE service by fundraising and providing a CRADLE comfort bag project.

Trustees provide support to HCPS in the form of workshops and adaptable learning programmes that are interactive and are bespoke for each department within each Trust.

Our NHS service is for women, couples and their extended families affected by pregnancy loss to 23 Weeks and 6 days, however we will support anyone who contacts us and is affected by pregnancy loss.

BECAUSE EVERY PREGNANCY MATTERS

Doula UK was founded in 2001 to promote life-changing support from skilled doulas for families in the childbearing year regardless of circumstance, while advocating for better support for UK families.

We have approximately 700 doulas working in all parts of the United Kingdom. Each member must complete Doula UK approved training, go through a rigorous mentoring and recognition process and comply with Doula UK code of conduct and policies.

We nurture our membership, so they can unconditionally support the needs of everyone involved in pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

The Early Birth Association is a volunteer-led registered charity and we are here to make a positive difference for babies and families and the staff teams who work on two baby units by providing a wide variety of help and support for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and the Special Care Baby Unit in Haywards Heath, Sussex.

This ranges from providing practical items for the babies and parents on the units to make their hospital stay more homely and comfortable, to funding vital life saving equipment and research. ‘

We run our lovely Ashford Baby Memorial Garden in Ashford town centre, just minutes away from shops, buses and trains. The Garden is open every day and helps raise awareness of baby loss. It is completely accessible and is open to everyone.

Within the Garden we have a teardrop mosaic created by local families and 300 name tiles, each one remembering one of our very special babies.  We also undertake a significant amount of awareness-raising with around thirty events each year and talk to local groups and organisations about baby loss. We are completely volunteer run.

Footsteps Counselling & Care is a charitable organisation offering compassionate counselling and care for anyone in the Gloucestershire area affected by pregnancy-related issues.

Our vision is that anyone affected by any fertility or pregnancy-related issues, traumatic birth or baby loss for any reason can access compassionate, personalised support on the journey of coping with their traumatic experiences.

Forever Stars was launched in 2014, to help raise funds to provide resources that will help and support bereaved families following baby loss. Forever Stars is based in Nottingham.

Group B Strep Support is dedicated to eradicating group B Strep infections, including meningitis, in babies. GBSS provides up to date and evidence based information on group B Strep to families and their health professionals, and supports affected families.

Handmade with Love & Making Memories is managed by volunteers who have endured or been affected by the loss of a baby during pregnancy or infancy. We provide burial gowns, funeral boxes, to baby loss parents, funeral homes, and hospitals across the UK.

Our ‘Dressed with Dignity’ project was launched in 2019 and provides burial gowns, burial wraps, and cribs for a baby at any gestation.

All our items are handmade by our volunteer’s which allows us to support community projects and the baby loss community.

Our Rainbow Project was launched in August 2020, and has helped 99 families to date, by providing vital information and keepsakes for families pregnant after baby loss.

We are an Edinburgh based charity providing baby loss counselling and support to families. Formerly known as SANDS Lothians, we have 40 years’ experience of offering compassionate bereavement care in the community.

The organisation provides research-based information and vital support to women and anyone affected by the condition.

Isla’s Journey offers support to families in neonatal units from pre-admission and beyond. We understand that every family is unique and has different outcomes and so we aim to provide guidance to all.

We provide care packs to families on admission and this then spans to sibling packs and memorial boxes should they be needed. We have access to a range of resources that families can request including signposting to counselling and grievance support, access to gowns to use for babies at rest and text/ forum services that aim to bring families together in memory of their children.

The Last Kiss Foundation was founded to help bereaved families who suffer a baby loss. We want every hospital to have at least 2 cuddle cots in situ to give the parents the gift of time before they have to give their last kiss goodbye.

The Lily Foundation is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease. Our mission is to support people whose lives are affected by the condition, raise awareness and fund research into its prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

10 million people in the UK suffer from diseases in which mitochondrial dysfunction is believed to be involved, and every day in the UK a baby is born that will develop mitochondrial disease.

MAMA Academy is a UK charity which has been helping save babies lives since 2012. Sadly, the UK has one of the highest stillbirth rates in the developed world with the majority of deaths potentially preventable.

We empower parents with safer pregnancy information, educate healthcare professionals on stillbirth prevention methods and raise awareness of the issues around stillbirth and early infant mortality. Our midwifery resources aid consistent maternity care across the country; improving outcomes for families and their precious babies.

The Mariposa Trust works to support anyone who has suffered the loss of a baby, at any stage of pregnancy, at birth or in infancy, whether the loss be recent or historic. With 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in loss, around 250,000 families will lose a baby this year in the UK, and the Mariposa Trust is committed to remembering each life lost.

Through its 6 support divisions the charity provides a range of support options, as well as global services of remembrance at Cathedrals, Minsters and Abbeys called the ‘Saying Goodbye’ services.

MISS is a support group for women and partners who have suffered a miscarriage or baby loss. It is a monthly group where we have a speaker from a health background (midwife or counsellor for example) then a therapeutic activity by a local business which members can get involved with (for example: making cards, painting chairs, yoga).

It is free of charge to attend, confidential and aim to encourage members to attend so they do not feel alone and know there is others going through similar in their local area.

The Multiple Births Foundation was founded in 1988 and has become a national and international authority on multiple births.

We are the only charity internationally which employs healthcare professionals dedicated to supporting multiple birth families and educating and advising professionals about their special needs.

National Maternity Support Foundation (NMSF) is also known as Jake’s Charity. It was set up following the tragic stillbirth of Jake Canter due to the nearest hospital maternity unit being closed.

NMSF’s founding principles are to take a ‘proactive educative approach’ to maternity care. NMSF campaigns to help keep maternity services available, accessible, safe and well resourced.

We ensure that prospective parents have all the information needed to make informed decisions. We support and promote, in partnership with other organisations, further research into stillbirth and neonatal death. We ensure there is adequate bereavement care available whenever it is required.

Nova’s aim is that families at all stages of pregnancy and babyloss (in the child’s first year) receive immediate, ongoing therapeutic trauma and bereavement support.

Nova will provide parents with tools to manage trauma and grief, whilst remembering their child, enabling parents to survive past the first year of grief whilst feeling less anxious about the future.

Nova will do this by running antenatal classes specifically for parents pregnant after a loss, which will in turn fund therapists.

Oakley was born on 29.11.18 at Colchester General Hospital via c-section. He unfortunately gained his angel wings 6 hours later; Oakley’s Gift was set up to support bereaved parents after the loss of a baby at any gestation.

We liaise with hospitals and discover areas where there is opportunity to help parents. In order to do this, we fundraise all year round to ensure we can help as many families as possible.

Our Angel Bears purpose is to offer emotional support to grieving families who have babies lost to miscarriage, preterm birth, compassionate induction (also known as TFMR) stillbirth, neonatal deaths, SIDS, accident or illness.

Our Angel Bears provide several NHS trust early pregnancy assessment units with small keepsake packages that can be offered to patients in the hope of bringing some comfort and memories for those who left the hospital with empty arms and a broken heart.

Our Missing Peace is a campaign which is trying to break the silence surrounding child loss.

Our aim is to help all bereaved parents find support as quickly as possible and let others know that it is OK to talk about our children who are no longer with us.

We also hope to highlight the word ‘Vilomah’ which means “against the natural order” and is the name for a bereaved parent.

Peeps is the only UK charity, supporting those affected by HIE (Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy).

HIE is a lack of oxygen/blood flow to the brain of an infant that can cause injury.

Sadly, not all infants survive an HIE event. We offer emotional, practical, and financial support to anyone who has been touched by HIE, no matter the cause, age or outcome.

Petals is a charity that delivers a free specialist counselling to women and partners who suffer psychological distress from trauma and grief related to pregnancy loss, as well as working nationally to raise awareness of the need for emotional support following pregnancy loss.

Founded in Jersey in 2008, Philip’s Footprints offer memory boxes to local families who sadly lose a baby or child from 12-14 weeks gestation to full term or neonatal loss and older children.

They offer peer support and an annual remembrance service for families affected by the loss of a baby (any gestation) or child. They also fund antenatal training, equipment and information for pregnant women through Jersey Maternity to reduce the rate of stillbirths, premature births and complications at birth.

Pregnancy Counselling & Care (Scotland) offer emotional and practical support to men, women and teenagers affected by a pregnancy related concern. Our counselling agency provides over 750 hours of free counselling per year and we see people whose lives have been impact by a range of different pregnancy related concerns including the loss of a baby.

We offer open ended therapy and place no limit on how many sessions anyone is able to get because we feel that it is important individuals to have space to explore how things connect to your life as a whole.

We also offer a fast track service where we are able to see someone within 48 hours of their initial referral for a maximum of three sessions.

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity enables families who have a baby or child with a life-threatening illness to make the most of time together; providing expert practical and emotional support, where they need it, for as long as it is needed.

Reflect is a free support service in York, Harrogate and Selby for anyone facing a pregnancy choice and for those struggling after experiencing pregnancy loss.

We offer a structured support programme for anyone struggling after a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or infant death to help you work through your emotions and grief. If the loss was recent or many years ago, we are here to help you work through this experience.

Riaan Remembers was set up by Raj & Sharan following the loss of their 7 month old baby boy, Riaan. Initially set up us a fundraising project to support organisations such as hospitals and charities that care for sick babies and their parents, it has grown into a space where baby loss is openly and honestly discussed from a mum and a dad’s perspective.  Riaan Remembers raises awareness of baby loss and offers support to those impacted.

The Scottish Cot Death Trust (SCDT) is the only cot death charity in Scotland. Our support services include home visiting bereavement support, counselling and befriending and is available to any family affected by the sudden, unexpected death of a baby or young child.

SCDT funds research into the cause(s) of cot death and provides free education to parents and professional on ways to reduce the risks of cot death and to raise awareness of cot death.

SiMBA is here to support anyone who has suffered the loss of a baby during pregnancy or close to the time of birth. We help families to gather precious items for their Memory Box which we gift to them.

We understand the importance for families to spend time with their baby in one of our Family Rooms. Adding a leaf onto our Tree of Tranquillity shows parents that they are not alone in their loss and acts as a place to remember and reflect.

We also offer drop in support groups, 24 hour on-line support and training for midwives and hospital staff. Our charity aims to enhance the bereavement services already being offered and help parents rebuild their shattered lives

Small and Mighty Babies supports families through high risk pregnancy, premature birth and baby loss through our online parent-to-parent support community.

Our Love Through Loss community offers free monthly support evenings, annual remembrance events during Pregnancy and Infant Loss week and access to voluntary bereavement doula support, free remembrance photography with Barefoot Dubai, professional bereavement counselling with Lighthouse Arabia and other clinical psychology clinics we work closely with.

SOFT UK was founded in 1990 by two mothers of children affected by Trisomy 13 (Patau’s syndrome) and Trisomy 18 (Edwards’ syndrome).  Today it remains an organisation run by families for families.

SOFT UK supports families at every stage of their Trisomy journey; through pregnancy, when caring for a child, after a loss and beyond. Support often continues for many years after the loss of a pregnancy, baby or child.

SOFT UK supports families through information, 1-2-1 support service, social media group and UK-wide Family Events.

Sophia – Pregnancy Loss Support aims to support anybody who has experienced the tragic loss of a baby through miscarriage, TFMR, stillbirth and neonatal death.

We aim to support through monthly groups and online support.

We aim to continue to work towards changing the taboo and silence around baby loss.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare, genetically inherited neuromuscular condition. It causes progressive muscle weakness and loss of movement due to muscle wasting (atrophy). There are different forms of SMA and a wide spectrum of how severely children and adults are affected.

There are many families bereaved by SMA in the UK. SMA UK provides information, support, practical advice and emotional support at the time of diagnosis and through the difficult times ahead.

The TeddyRose Foundation supports bereaved families who have suffered the devastation of a baby loss.

We provide donations to families such as “cuddle blankets”. The blankets have been specially adapted so that when the time comes for the families to say goodbye to their baby, they can be separated in half. The family keep one half and the baby is snuggled up in the other.

We also provide emotional support directly to families through our various platforms and face to face at our monthly support groups.

Teddy’s Wish raises funds for potentially life saving research into SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), neonatal death and stillbirth and supports grieving families.

TFMR Mamas provides free monthly support groups, a private support group on Facebook and paid weekly support groups in intimate groups of 6 TFMR Mamas with tools and mentoring to support you in processing your feelings, emotions, triggers and grief of losing your precious babies.

We also have the TFMR Mamas Hub membership which has expert speakers and those with lived experience on monthly webinars and Live Q&A’s, plus a dedicated community space away from social media to connect with other TFMR Mamas that are in a similar space in their journey to you.

TimeNorfolk provides free counselling support to anyone in Norfolk and Waveney who experiences mental health challenges due to pregnancy loss at any stage, baby loss or pregnancy choices.

Time To Talk TFMR has been created by Hayley Manning and Catherine Mousley who have gone through termination for medical reasons themselves.

The podcast aims are to:
Support women and couples who are either contemplating a TFMR or who have been through a TFMR.
Raise awareness about the complexities of TFMR to the wider baby loss community and society in general.
Act as a resource of information and learning for health care professionals working with TFMR families.

Every episode has a person with the lived experience of TFMR and/or a professional who works in this area.

Topics covered are wide ranging and varied, showing the many different ways TFMR can come about and the effects it has on people’s lives.

Twins Trust Bereavement Service offers support, community and information for parents who have experienced the death of a baby or child from a multiple birth pregnancy.

Morgan’s Wings is a charity based in Cardiff, South Wales. It is Morgan’s Wings’ aim to help parents cope with the initial and long term aftermath of a miscarriage.

Remember My Baby provides a complimentary remembrance photography service to families facing the loss of their baby before, during or shortly after birth; enabling them to capture lasting memories of their precious child.

RMB works with NHS Trusts, hospices and funeral homes to offer the service to bereaved parents. The 200+ volunteer photographers are trained to provide a respectful and compassionate service.

We are a Birmingham based new group in our first year and are currently working toward charity status. A national freephone helpline dedicated to anyone affected by the loss of a child of any age- whether they are parents, grandparents, siblings, family members or friends. We also provide support to health professionals, emergency services, and education providers.

The Child Death Helpline is staffed by volunteers, all of them bereaved parents. All volunteers are trained, supervised and supported by the professional team at The Alder Centre in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The Helpline is a confidential, safe environment within which the caller can talk openly about the child’s life and death. The service also provides useful information if necessary about national and regional services.
